You start it by not sounding like a broken robot. Reason why people don't get replies back.

But you gotta be polite right ? So you start with a greeting , and then you ask how the person feels , so if the person feels bad then you continue the convo XD , the problem nowadays is that people always say "I'm good , alright , good , I'm OK, K" and blah blah blah, they aren't even trying to can't even keep a convo going. I think it's laziness or something .
You won't go outside and talk to a person like that without a greeting XD , except if we live in a savage world where people are all rude. I think greetings and asking about a person's health is the minimum to do to try to be polite.

You'd go outside and actually say more than just a "hi

From experience.

I'll message somebody and simply say hi. 1 out 10 I'll get a reply.

I message somebody a hi, and follow up(in same message) tell them how I found them, state my intention or reason for messaging them or bring something up that I saw on there bio. Something bloody creative.

It's boring as hell when somebody just says hi. It gives me two ideas of what they are like

1, they don't help carry a convo, and most likely will only reply with short words.

2, they want to be sexual.

Both for me will make me say to them "*** off"

Better for the two people involved to part ways. Just wasting time as the convo will most likely die. - Modified on:  Dec 6 2018

I totally agree to some points however it totally depends on the type of person we are talking to ig , because even if you say hi + follow with how you found them , state intention and so on , it may increase the possibility of getting a reply but doesn't guarantee it either. Consequently , 1st possibility is getting a reply and a nice convo , 2nd possibility is just getting a reply like "k" "OK" "oh" 3rd is not getting a reply but a " seen " ( the worst ig ).

It also depends on the type of person who talks ig, we shouldn't generalize ig . For instance , I would send a hi to a girl , then I'd ask her how she feels and about her day. And then like keep talking with long words ( cause I can't write short words , and I don't like wiring short words and I never do

).

You also stated that you'd bring something on their bio , but what is the point of a conversation if you already know everything about the person ? IG , the best thing is to learn about the person , step by step in a convo , that way , we keep a long interesting convo filled with satisfaction of curiosity, best knowledge of the other person and at the same time socializing .

"Hi" is certainly a boring way to start a conversation, but the real problem arises when they can't follow it up with something of substance. - Dec 7 2018
