No names will be divulged, there’s this guy at my school, we’ve been friends for a long ass time, he has a habit of not going to school for dumb reasons, he’s racked up 41 absences this year, he’s getting stuck with a 1500 dollar ticket that he will make his family pay for sure, the three of them meaning his mom dad and little brother barely make more than 3k a month together. This scum *** barely got a deal from a judge that if he hauls his ass to school everyday for the rest of the year them he’ll avoid the ticket, just so y’all know, he got this for an 18 day continuous absence. - Mar 13 2019

Sh*tty thing to deal with. But if you are close friends and are genuinely concerned... keep in mind there usually another side to every story like this.

Could simply be a scum bag, but it very easily either be: lack of motivation/bored n education (prefers hobbies, arts, etc.), other drama/stresses in life (you don't have to tell anyone here, but think about what his family situation is like) ...or very well suffer from severe depression and may deep down not have the confidence to show up and is admitting "defeat" which can/has probably snowballed out of control.

If you do consider him a close friend, probably time for a serious talk because all the above cases mentioned, he's not going to admit or show easily or readily.

If not, and he truly is a scumbag with no excuses (often unlikely, but it does exist!) and you rather see him pay for his actions, so be it, if he's 16+ by now he should be liable for his own actions and the law will be on his as* in no time assuming his family is willing to let him pay for those actions (which they should at this point)

tldnr: If hes a friend, talk go him/call him out and find the real reason he's acting out and giving up so easily on his/his family's wellbeing. I doubt its just because he's "scum" to his core... but it may also be something you do not have the power to fix, all you can do is try/give him the chance.

Never shoulder someones burdens on yourself as opposed to just offing a shoulder to lean on while they get their balance back.

This is probably serious, as youre already beginning to see, so I hope you can take some initiative and reach out before its too late.
